So on Saturday, I competed in my first Crossfit competition in a year and a half. I forgot how taxing it can be on the body and the mind. You know 3 of the workouts going into it and if you make it to the finals, you get to do a 4th one.
Yes. All in one day! So I did everything right going into it. Got enough sleep, was eating right, stretching and mobilizing the tight parts of my body. Yet, I woke up Saturday morning feeling really off. I knew going into it that it was going to be a lot of work, but my throat was scratchy and my head didn't feel right. I kept telling Scott that something wasn't right...that I didn't feel right. He kept telling me that's how I felt in every competition. Lol. I mean, I cut my hand with my own fingernail...like bleeding cut open. I ran into the sign that had the lane number on it and cut my leg open. I ran into the handle of a trash can trying to get by. I hit my hand in the bathroom on the toilet paper roll holder. Yes. I felt really off. I mean, I am clumsy but that just takes the cake! But I powered through. The first workout wasn't too terrible because you had 4 people sharing the work. It had wall balls, pull-ups, power cleans and box jump overs. Oh, and we had to bike for max calories throughout it too. We all finished in pretty good shape and ready for the next one. The second one was definitely our wheelhouse. It was squat cleans into shoulder to overhead. We finished 25 at 75 pounds, 20 at 85 pounds, 15 at 95 pounds, 10 at 105 pounds, and 5 at 115 pounds in 7:07. We took first place in that event! PS - if you need to know what any of these moves are, google is your best friend. The third workout... Oh, the third workout. Two members of our team had to do 45 partner deadlifts at 255 pounds, then 45 bar facing burpees. In sync. The last two members had to do the same but at a rep scheme of 21-15-9. I believe we placed 2nd in that event, but my memory isn't the greatest right now. At this point, we were in 3rd place and 2.5 points out from first. So we were going into the finals. That workout was a doozy! It was a 15 min amrap (as many rounds and reps as possible) with a 100 handstand push-up buy-in. Once you were done with your handstands, you and a partner did 5 synchronized front squats at 95 pounds, then 10 toes to bar, then 15 calories on the assault bike. You two and the other two team members just kept switching back and forth until time was up. Now. Let me tell you. If you've never been on an assault bike, find one and try it out. It is a soul crusher and a quad killer. It was tough going back into the workout after the other two team members were done. Overall, we finished the competition in 3rd place! Super proud of my team, especially because we've never competed together before. We have a few lessons learned to take to the next one, but I had a fun day. But here's the really fun part. As we were heading home, I just kept feeling worse and worse. Not my body or muscles but my head and throat. By the time we went to bed, I was so congested and my head was pounding. I spent Sunday in my pj's, sleeping and relaxing and trying to eat and drink as much as I could. But it was hard. You don't really want to do much swallowing when your throat hurts. So yeah...I'm pretty sure I wrecked my immune system with four workouts in one day. I wonder how long it will take me to get back to 100%. Fun competition on Saturday...not so fun sick day on Sunday. Been using my oils and taking it easy as I'm trying to knock this thing out as quickly as possible! I hope you had an awesome weekend! And aren't fighting a terrible head cold like I am. Have a beautiful day! And a blessed week! With love and wellness, Whitney
